Invasion Day +60 It is hard to believe that the world is entering the third month of this global war. The carnage carries on and as the woman in the shelter in the east of Ukraine today said, ' I don't care any more, please just stop the fighting.'
But Russia will not stop. Not until Putin has conquered Europe by the defeat, not only of Ukraine, but all the states he wants to return to tyranny, and then some.
We look for brightness. And hope. And peace. And truth. And justice. And inspiration.
There was some good news in the Hoggy office, the first of our supported Ukrainians has arrived in the area and we are planning to meet up as soon as we can,. And Anna has managed to have some of her possessions from home arrive in the UK. Two more ladies are arriving next week and Anna has put up Welcome Packs for them. It is something to lessen our angst and disbelief with the present UK government. Such intransigence as this is shaming. We must do better. Perhaps a new leader may shake things up? Some seem to think so.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine, the line is holding against a massive weigh of numbers bolstered by bombardment, the old Putin butchery of the innocent.
The war is worse, not any better, how could it be? And all are suffering from war-weariness after only two months. And this war will go on and on. Like all the others. We are a fractured world, but we here will seek on for answers, for humanity and compassion. We must hold firm to all those who suffer so.
We must not lose the will to go on. Please continue writing to us and sharing your stories.
We must cherish the children. They are the future.
Todays Letters:
From Janet Fizz Curtis, Germany
Dear Hoggy,
Here is a poem for this week.
For the children.
A Child’s Wish
by Janet Fizz Curtis
Tall buildings shattered in the blast
That killed the children walking past
Some who were on their way to school
Were too young to know the golden rule
That when a mad-man steals your land
You take shelter, or you take a stand.
Either way, your life has changed -
Your friends, your dreams, all re-arranged.
Childish laughter and the school bell,
Rang out to announce the Gates of Hell
Which loomed in front of their little faces
So they ran to hide in different places
But finding no relief, their fate was sealed:
Their playground was Putin’s battlefield.
Those children won’t live to see another day -
Just random body parts in the alley way.
Young friends sitting quietly in class,
Murdered by shrapnel and flying glass
Splinters slicing through skin to bone
Who’s hand? Who’s leg? Remains unknown.
As the children died, each said a prayer
“Love each other, deny despair,
Hate and evil must not prevail,
That is my final wish. Do not fail.”
All good wishes Hoggy, keep going.
Janet.
Dear Janet,
We will, but there is a need for a new impetus: there is weariness abroad, a sickness for war. We will rise again and keep rising for as long we can, for as long as it takes.
New ideas, new messages, new writing.
Happy Easter Ukraine?
It is hard to say but we attended an Orthodox Easter event on Sunday led by the Romanian community here and they maintained hope and custom, and joy in the face of all adversity. It was a lesson.
There was a lamb cake that was as filling as it was unusual here.
Perhaps we may hear of Ukrainian food soon?
Meanwhile we look for new ways to keep the message alive.
Thank you Fizz for your poetry and your continued support.
Hoggy
