Invasion day +84 The growing food crisis across the world, exacerbated by the war in Ukraine, shows clearly how we need to be more united as a human family. The war has indeed thrown Europe more closely together, perhaps even the world, but post-conflict, we may have another opportunity to work more closely together for peace, a peace and a world that must place Russia as simply another valued country, not the tyrannical dictatorship that has threatened every corner of the earth, and the Real Russia itself most of all, for so long.
With Putin gone, war criminals tried and brought to justice, and the terrible legacies of war brought into the open we can start to help Ukraine re-build and return the world to peace. Food can be more evenly distributed, the global population seen as equal citizens of the world not restricted by national boundaries, often so arbitrary, and we can continue the transparency and unity of purpose for peace that this war is forcing upon us.
Secrecy is not so easy to maintain in this day and age and is probably the main reason Putin will fail: as we have said before, he can fool some of the people and only for some of the time in today's much more transparent world.
Although the war rages on with savage fighting in the Donbas and illegal occupation of land in the south, Putin will know by now that he has lost this war and with it the fear the people in Russia have had of him for so long. Increasingly they will rise to reclaim their land. Russia must remain a viable state; Russia as a failed state would surely be disastrous for the long term stability of the world. Putin has to be removed as quickly as possible. And hopefully brought to trial for the misery he has inflicted on Ukraine, on his people, and on the world. Then the world can move on more purposefully to deal with the existential crises it faces over climate catastrophe.
There is a pressing need for a more united world.

Today's letters:
From Geoff Jackson, Essex,
Dear Hoggy,
The inspiration to write from the blog returns and here are my latest offerings.
CONTEMPLATION
Quietly, I sit and contemplate
The outcome of the Ukraine's fate.
One minute peace and daily life,
The next day full of death and strife.
Where once smart buildings proudly stood
Now all that is left is rubble and wood,
Hospitals, refineries, stations and more,
Bombarded by missiles, and raised to the floor.
Hospitals and care homes can no longer care,
Blown into oblivion by missiles from the air.
Rockets, tanks, and troops by the score,
One man and his cohorts still looking for more.
FLAGS AT HALF MAST
All across the world
Flags have been hoisted and unfurled.
In recent times the flags would be at full height
Flying proud all day until night.
Lately though, when flags are broken
Half-mast they fly as a heartbreak token.
All the while this rage from Russia
Causes terror, and hearts to be broken.
Families split, death and disaster
All is due to a so called master.
One who wants to rule by power
Causing death hour by hour.
Best wishes,
Geoff
Dear Geoff,
The great thing about poetry is that it is accessible to us all and you have embraced the genre with more heartfelt words, thank you for them.
To contemplate on Ukraine is powerful; the more we think about Ukraine the more strength we bring to their people. For their people are our people as we see in the leader today: we are one world and need to think this way more often in both contemplation and action.
The flags will not fly at half-mast for much longer. This war in unsustainable by Putin: he faces the combined, unified power of half the world and he cannot win. Whether he brings down Russia with him remains to be seen. The Russian people need to rise quickly to see their peril.
Before Putin the world was open to Russia, a tourist destination, a powerhouse, a leader. Now, in just three months it risks becoming another failed state, a pariah in the eyes of the world, and this collapse of a country needs to be avoided. Putin must go.
Best wishes Geoff and thank you for all your words.
